A mature and beautifully structured dry red from Georgia’s Kakheti region, Marani Saperavi Reserve 2012 is made from 100% Saperavi grapes grown in selected blocks of the Kondoli vineyards.
Deep, shining ruby red with subtle brick tones, this wine shows the complexity that comes with age. The nose is intense and layered, with aromas of cherry liqueur, red fruit jam and a rich spicy, smoky and earthy character developed through careful maturation.
On the palate, it is soft, elegant and silky, with creamy red fruit, sweet spice, leather and blond tobacco. The tannins are smooth and ripe, leading into a long, spicy finish with excellent depth and balance.
To increase concentration and fruit quality, the vineyard is green-harvested during véraison, reducing yields to just 5–6 tonnes per hectare. The grapes are hand-picked at the end of September, carefully sorted, gently de-stemmed and lightly crushed into open-top 225L barriques.
Fermentation takes place naturally using wild yeasts found on the grape skins, with hand punching used throughout to minimise mechanical impact and encourage gentle extraction of colour and tannin. After fermentation, the wine is transferred by gravity into oak barrels for maturation, building further volume, complexity and texture. It is then bottled unfiltered and aged further in the cellar before release.
A refined and mature expression of Saperavi, ideal for wine lovers who enjoy elegant reds with developed fruit, savoury complexity and a long, polished finish.
