A rich and distinctive dry qvevri white wine from Georgia’s Kakheti region, Marani Satrapezo Mtsvane 2018 is made from 100% Mtsvane grapes grown in selected blocks of the Kondoli vineyards.
Deep gold in colour with pronounced viscosity, this is a full-bodied and textural expression of Mtsvane. The nose is layered with dried white and yellow fruits, sweet pastry and subtle coconut notes, creating a complex and generous aromatic profile.
On the palate, the wine is buttery, dense and rounded, with ripe quince, pear and yellow fruit preserve flavours at the forefront. Gentle oak character from barrel maturation adds further depth, while a light citrus acidity keeps the richness balanced. The finish is long, fruity and persistent.
To improve concentration and overall fruit quality, the selected vineyard blocks are green-harvested before véraison, reducing yields to just 4–5 tonnes per hectare. The grapes are hand-picked at the end of September, carefully sorted, gently de-stemmed and lightly crushed into traditional Georgian qvevri buried in the winery floor.
Fermentation takes place naturally using indigenous yeasts found on the grape skins, with cap management carried out entirely by hand. The wine then remains on the skins for an extended five-month maceration, developing its deep golden colour, texture and aromatic complexity.
After maceration, the wine is transferred into small oak barriques for further maturation before coarse filtration, bottling and additional ageing in the cellar.
A bold and expressive Georgian white for those who enjoy structured, textured wines with ripe fruit, qvevri character and a touch of oak.
