A powerful and refined dry red from Georgia’s Kakheti region, Marani Satrapezo Saperavi 2018 is made from 100% Saperavi grapes grown in selected plots of the Kondoli vineyards.

Deep red in colour with a subtle brick hue at the rim, this wine opens with concentrated aromas of forest berries layered with complex vanilla and oak. On the palate, rich black fruit and silky oak tannins lead the way, followed by a rounded, full and soft mid-palate.

Fresh blackcurrant and liquorice bring lift and definition, while ripe grape tannins and well-integrated oak add depth and structure. The finish is long, polished and complex, making this a serious expression of Saperavi with both richness and elegance.

To improve concentration and fruit quality, the selected vineyard block is green-harvested during véraison, reducing yields to just 4–5 tonnes per hectare. The grapes are hand-picked at the end of September, carefully sorted, gently de-stemmed and lightly crushed into traditional Georgian qvevri buried in the winery floor.

Fermentation takes place naturally using indigenous yeasts found on the grape skins, with gentle hand punching throughout to minimise mechanical extraction. After up to one month of maceration, the wine is transferred into new oak barriques for 24 months of maturation, building complexity, texture and depth.

It is then bottled unfiltered and aged for a further six months in the cellar before release.

A bold, mature and beautifully structured Georgian red for those who enjoy full-bodied wines with dark fruit, oak, spice and a long, elegant finish.
